This Web companion to MSN Onpoint allows you to set your preferences for the mobile app. This includes Windows Live ID, Facebook, location and your preferred editorial topics.
2. What is a "Favorite" item?
Think of a "Favorite" as a favorite or bookmark that you can view later. These are saved to the cloud and you can sync to any device using your Windows Live ID. Try this out by clicking on any Favorite item on this site and checking on your mobile device later that also has your Windows Live ID associated with it.
3. I saved a story in my "Favorites" section and it is no longer available.
Where did it go?
Stories expire after 120 days.
4. Do I have to use a Windows Live ID to view MSN Onpoint?
No, you can enjoy all of MSN Onpoint without using your Windows Live ID. Windows Live ID does allow you to personalize and sync your experience between devices.
5. Why do I have to use my Facebook ID?
Your Facebook ID is optional but if entered allows you to Like and share articles found on MSN Onpoint on your own Facebook wall.
6. Why can't I log into Facebook?
Occasionally Internet connections fail for a variety of reasons. Please try again.
7. If I want to Like or share an article how do I sign into Facebook?
Just tap on the "thumbs up" graphic and you will receive a pop-up form to sign into Facebook.
8. How do I log out of Windows Live ID or Facebook?
To log out either service, tap on the Settings section and sign out.
9. Do you store my local information?
MSN Onpoint and Microsoft do not store specific information related to your location. If you specify your zip code, this will present local news, events and weather for your convenience. This information is not uniquely identified with your phone number or Windows Live ID.
10. When I enter my zip code it doesn't show information from my city or town?
MSN Onpoint is partnered with MSN local and MSNBC.com's Everyblock. Check http://local.msn.com and http://www.everyblock.com to see if your zip code is represented.
11. How do I turn off location-related features on my device?
The first time you run the MSN Onpoint app, you will be asked for permission to use your device's location. This information is used to retrieve local news, events and weather info . Location-related features can be turned off at any time by going to the Location section of Onpoint's Settings section, deleting your existing location from the text field provided there, and saving your settings.
12. How do I remove a topic I'm not interested in?
You can adjust your Settings by tapping the Settings button on each app or on the Web site Settings button to the right. Select or deselect to your liking and click ‘Save' when you are done.
13. Why does the MSN Onpoint app pause after I update my Settings?
After changing your subscriptions or updating your location in Settings, you may notice a brief pause when you tap the "Save" button. This pause occurs while the app retrieves the latest stories, news, and weather for your area, and should only take a few seconds.
14. Why can't I view articles in landscape mode on my handheld device?
Currently the design for handheld versions of MSN Onpoint are optimized for vertical (portrait) viewing mode to create best lay out possible.
15. Why can't I view the app on a plane or when I don't have an Internet connection?
MSN Onpoint constantly updates articles and news feeds and requires a connection so you have the most recent information available.
16. Why is there a "Read more" button on each article?
The MSN Onpoint team wants to make sure you have the most comprehensive access to information you are interested in. Every story contains multiple links to MSN's partner sites for your convenience and quick access.
17. How do I provide feedback on the app?
You can provide feedback on your MSN Onpoint app experience in the "About Onpoint" section found in Settings. We welcome and encourage you to send us your thoughts and ideas for improving the app!
18. How do I get support if I'm having trouble with the app?
You can also send support questions in the Settings>About Onpoint section of the app.
